Male or Female Q & A

Can We Change Our Biological Sex?

From a biblical, biological, and logical standpoint, a man cannot become a female and a female cannot become a male.

Biologically, sex is determined by chromosomes—XY for males and XX for females. This is a fixed reality from conception and cannot be changed by surgery, hormones, or self-identification. As Michael Egnor rightly observes in “Could Your Computer Be Transgender?”

“The very nature of sex as a biological reality is denied, yet the biology of sex is a fact so obvious that it staggers the mind to see it questioned.” The rebranding of biological sex as “gender identity” is not grounded in science but in ideology.

Biblically, God created humanity in two distinct sexes—male and female. This is not merely a cultural construct but a divine design:

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” — (Genesis 1:27).

Jesus Himself affirmed this in His teaching:

“Haven’t you read,’ he replied, ‘that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?” — (Matthew 19:4–5).

This shows that Jesus regarded the creation account as literal and authoritative. He did not leave room for the idea that a person could change their God-given sex. There is no biblical category for changing one’s sex or gender identity. To attempt to do so is to reject the Creator’s design.

Furthermore, the apostle Paul writes:

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” — (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

This reminds us that our bodies are not ours to redefine or alter according to personal feelings. Instead, we are called to honor God with the bodies He gave us.

To honor God with our bodies includes accepting the sex He has given us and living in accordance with His design. Attempting to change one’s sex is not only biologically impossible but also spiritually harmful, as it reflects a deeper rejection of God’s authority and wisdom.

In love and truth, it’s important to say that those who experience gender dysphoria or confusion are not beyond God’s grace. But the solution is not to affirm a false identity—it is to lovingly point them to the truth of who they are in God’s eyes and to the healing and identity found in Christ.

It’s also important to approach this topic with compassion. Many who struggle with gender identity are experiencing real emotional pain. But again, the answer is not to affirm a false identity. The answer is found in the truth of God’s Word

God offers grace and restoration to all who turn to Him. No matter our past or our struggles, we are invited to find our true identity—not in gender expression—but in being children of God through faith in Christ (Galatians 3:26).

All people are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), and all are in need of redemption through Jesus Christ. The gospel offers hope, not by affirming our brokenness, but by transforming us through repentance and faith.

In Conclusion

So, to answer clearly: No, a male cannot become a female, nor can a female become a male—not biologically, not biblically, and not in truth. This is a truth rooted in creation, affirmed by Scripture, and confirmed by science. But In Christ, there is hope, healing, and a new identity that transcends all confusion and brokenness.

There is grace for all who turn to Him—again, grace not to affirm our brokenness, but to transform us into who God created us to be. Every person, regardless of their struggles, is deeply loved by God and invited into a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.
